SINGAPORE, July 2017 – hôtel vagabond Singapore has recently become the first carbon neutral hotel in Singapore, since April 2017. The hotel is one of the first few commercial consumers to take up iSwitch Electricity Retail’s newly launched product with Carbon Credits under the “iSwitch2Green” program. This program aims to look beyond just electricity costs savings, as it brings about environmental sustainability and efficiency of a business.
“iSwitch understands our business needs and direction. Besides reducing our electricity bills, as part of our CSR drive to support environmental sustainability, hôtel vagabond Singapore is proud to be the first Carbon Neutral hotel in Singapore with iSwitch,” said Ms. Harpreet Bedi, General Manager, hôtel vagabond Singapore.
During their electricity contract period with iSwitch, hôtel vagabond Singapore will be offsetting a total of 650 tCO2e carbon emissions for 1,440 MWh of electricity usage. The hotel not only enjoys and maximises immense electricity costs savings, but has taken a significant step forward in their efforts to be an environmentally responsible corporation. Every unit of conventional electricity the hotel and its guests use, is effectively fully offset by the UN certified carbon credits.
About iSwitch2Green – Carbon Efficiency Program
The world is moving towards a more carbon neutral footprint. Singapore has made commitments for environmental sustainability to reduce its own Emission Intensities by 36% by 2030 as submitted at the COP 21 Paris Climate Agreements. The Government too has announced the proposed introduction of a Carbon Tax in 2019.
While this will affect all electricity consumers in Singapore, it also provides an opportunity to re-evaluate our own energy efficiency and carbon footprint.
iSwitch seeks to play its part in Singapore by launching the “iSwitch2Green” program and product with Carbon Credits. All contestable consumers can now offset their carbon emissions created by their electricity consumption through purchasing UN Certified Carbon Credits via an electricity contract with iSwitch.
